Joint prosthesis with infinitely positionable head

A method for preparing an articulating component of a joint prosthesis, the prosthesis having an implant engaged within a bone of the joint, the method comprising the steps of:

• determining an angular orientation of a trial articulating component relative to the implant within the bone of the joint;
• positioning a final articulating component within an insert component;
• replicating the angular orientation of the trial articulating component in the final articulating component;
• next fixing the final articulating component to the insert component;
• and
• then mounting the insert component to the implant engaged within the bone of the joint.

A method for replicating an angular orientation of a trial articulating component relative to an implant engaged within the bone of a joint, comprising the steps of:

• removably mounting an insert component to the proximal portion of an implant engaged within the bone of the joint;
• positioning a trial articulating component within the insert component;
• determining an angular orientation of the trial articulating component relative to the implant;
• next fixing the trial articulating component to the insert component;
• removing the insert component from the implant with the trial articulating component intact;
• and
• using the insert component and trial articulating component to replicate the angular orientation in a final articulating component.

A method for performing a revision of a joint prosthesis having an implant engaged within a bone of the joint and an articulating component fixed to an insert component removably mounted to the implant, comprising the steps of:

• removing the insert component from the implant with the implant engaged within the bone with the articulating component fixed thereto;
• preparing a new insert component with a new articulating component fixed thereto;
• and
• mounting the new insert component to the implant engaged within the bone.
