Abstract
A Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator (TENS) and electrode pad that is capable simultaneously of delivering hot or cold thermal therapy for the relief of pain.
Claims36
A transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator device comprising:
- An enclosing surface;
- a heating or chilling thermal reservoir contained within the enclosing surface;
- and
- at least two opposing electrodes contained within the enclosing surface and connected to the thermal reservoir wherein the electrodes and the housing or thermal reservoir that contacts a user's skin have similar thermal conductivities.
A transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator device comprising at least two opposing electrodes fixed on a surrounding matrix of polymers.
A transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator device having preprogrammed signal outputs.
A thermal therapy device wherein the skin contact part of the device is comprised of a polymer with a heat transfer rate slow enough to make thermal therapy comfortable to the user.
A thermal therapy device wherein the thermal reservoir comprises a polymer filled with high thermal mass particles.
Electrodes wherein a metal conductor is permanently bonded to a conductively filled elastomeric polymer.
Conductively filled elastomeric electrodes comprised of a polymer of the class of synthetic rubbers in the group consisting of styrene-butadiene-styrenes SBS, styrene-polyethylene/butylenes-styrenes SEBS, poly urethanes, silicone gels, acrylics, acrylic hydrogels, and polyolefins.
