The present invention relates to a sterile sample collection device for fluids and a method of using the same. It is comprised of a transfer device having a body with a bore formed through at least a portion of its interior. Contained within the bore is a movable plunger. The body has a first and a second end. The first end contains a face designed to be attached to the upstream component. The second end is connected to tube which is then connected to a collection bag. The plunger has corresponding first and second ends. The first end of the plunger when in the closed position is in alignment with the face of the body which combined form a steamable surface and a sterile barrier against the environment to the rest of the interior of the body, the plunger and downstream components.
1) A sterile device for fluids comprised of a transfer device having a body having a bore formed through at least a portion of its interior, a movable plunger contained within the bore, the body having a first end containing a first opening, the first end containing a face designed to be attached to the upstream component, a port formed on the component selected from the group consisting of the plunger end farthest away from the first end and the body, the port being downstream of the first opening and connected to a downstream component selected from the group consisting bag, a sterile connector, a sanitary flange, a tube, a filter and a pipe, the plunger having a corresponding first and second end, the first end of the plunger when in a closed position being in alignment with the face of the body in the first opening of the body, which combined, form a steamable surface and a sterile barrier against the environment to the rest of the interior of the body, the plunger and the tube and downstream component.
13) A filter device comprising a filter in a housing, the housing having an inlet and an outlet, the inlet and outlet each having a having a body having a bore formed through at least a portion of its interior, a movable plunger contained within the bore, the body having a first end containing a first opening, the first end containing a face designed to be attached to the upstream component, a port formed on the component selected from the group consisting of the plunger end farthest away from the first end and the body, the port being downstream of the first opening and connected to the inlet or outlet of the filter, the plunger having a corresponding first and second end, the first end of the plunger when in a closed position being in alignment with the face of the body in the first opening of the body, which combined, form a steamable surface and a sterile barrier against the environment to the rest of the interior of the body, the plunger and the filter.
14) A sterile device for fluids comprised of a transfer device having a body having a bore formed through at least a portion of its interior, a movable plunger contained within the bore, the body having a first end and a second end, the first end containing a first opening, the first end containing a face designed to be attached to the upstream component, a port formed in the body between the first end and the second end of the body, being in fluid communication with the bore and being connected to a downstream component, the plunger having a corresponding first and second end, the first end of the plunger when in a closed position being in alignment with the face of the body in the first opening of the body, which combined, form a steamable surface and a sterile barrier against the environment to the rest of the interior of the body, the plunger the port and downstream component and the second end being within the second end of the body to liquid tightly seal the second end of the body.
