A method for treating severe melancholic depression, comprising administering to a subject a preparation comprising EPA.
A method for identifying patients suffering from depression susceptible to therapeutic benefit from treatment with EPA, comprising testing the subject using the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS);
- selecting subjects scoring a maximum of 2 on at least one of the items of the HDRS selected from;
- early awakening (item 6), appetite loss (item 12) and weight loss (item 16)
A method for treating severe melancholic depression, comprising co-administering a preparation comprising EPA with an antidepressant drug.
