A computer-accessible medium having executable instructions to detect an edge of an image, the executable instructions capable of directing a processor to perform:
- locating a plurality of candidate collimation edges in a plurality of projected edge images, the plurality of projected edge images associated with image intensity data;
- and
- determining validity of each of the candidate collimation edges based on statistical analysis of the image intensity data.
A computer-accessible medium having executable instructions to detect an edge of an image, the executable instructions capable of directing a processor to perform:
- shrinking an input image;
- creating a plurality of edge images for each side of the input image;
- normalizing edge images of each side of the input image;
- creating a plurality of projection-space images for each side of the input image;
- removing local non-maximum peaks in each of the projection-space images for each side of the input image;
- limiting an angle variation in each of the projection-space images for each side of the input image;
- selecting one peak in each of the projection-space images for each side;
- converting peak coordinates in the projection-space images to line equations corresponding to candidate collimation edges in the image intensity data;
- testing validity of a candidate collimation edge for each side;
- and
- calculating intersection points for valid collimation edges.
A computer-accessible medium having executable instructions to detect an edge of an image, the executable instructions capable of directing a processor to perform:
- accessing image intensity data;
- obtaining a plurality of edge images from the image intensity data;
- creating projected edge images from the edge images;
- locating a plurality of candidate collimation edges in the plurality of projected edge images;
- and
- determining validity of each of the candidate collimation edges based on statistical analysis of the image intensity data.
A system to crop a collimated portion of an image comprising:
- a preprocessor operable to receive a raw input image from a digital image detector and operable to store the raw input image on a mass storage device;
- a component operable to detect collimation edges in the raw input image;
- a post-processor of the raw input image;
- an image shuttering means;
- and
- an image cropping means.
