Abstract
A wireless device dynamically adjusts its beacon period as devices join and disconnect from a network. The number of open beacon slots is programmable and maintained as devices join the piconet.
Claims20
A wireless device to operate in a network, comprising:
- an antenna to transmit a signal having a beacon period;
- and
- a processor to dynamically adjust a number of beacon slots in the beacon period as other devices are communicatively joined in the network, the processor to add a new beacon slot for each of the other devices communicatively joined in the network.
A wireless device comprising:
- a transceiver coupled to an antenna, the transceiver to process a signal that includes a beaconing period;
- and
- a processor to store a parameter value that sets a number of open slots in the beaconing period and adjusts a length of the beaconing period to retain the number of open slots as other devices join a network and are assigned to current open slots in the beacon period.
A wireless device, comprising:
- multiple antennas to receive and transmit a signal having a beacon period;
- and
- first and second processor cores, wherein at least one processor core has storage to store a value that defines a number of open beacon slots in the beacon period, and the at least one processor core assigns a current open beacon slot to a device that beacons in the current open beacon slot and adjusts a length of the beacon period to include additional open beacon slots that match the number of the value.
A method of joining a piconet, comprising:
- powering a device on;
- investigating, in the device, received beacon signals to determine whether other devices are joined to the piconet;
- and
- adjusting a length of the beacon signals to keep a programmed number of open beacon slots in the beacon signals as the other devices join the piconet.
1 more element
A method for joining a network comprising:
- investigating current open beacon slots in a beacon signal received by a device to determine whether another device is attempting to join the network;
- storing in the device a value to set a number of open beacon slots;
- assigning the another device to a current open beacon slot;
- and
- adjusting a length of a beacon signal transmitted by the device to account for the other device joining the network and to retain the number of open beacon slots at the stored value.
