Abstract
A magnetic disk apparatus includes a magnetic recording media having a substrate, a data recording layer formed on one surface of the substrate and including a magnetic recording layer, and a shield layer formed on the other surface of the substrate and including a soft magnetic layer and no magnetic recording layer, and a magnetic head.

A magnetic disk apparatus comprising:
- a magnetic recording media having a soft underlayer and a perpendicular recording layer;
- and
- a magnetic head having a main pole, a return yoke and an exciting coil,
- wherein a product of a saturation flux density B (T) and a total thickness t (nm) of the soft underlayer and a magnetic write width MWW (nm) of the magnetic head meets the following relationship:
- B·t≧−585.4×MWW+136.5 (T·nm).
