Abstract
A spooling device for storing and dispensing a cable. The device can store and deploy an optical jumper cable without exposure of excess cable cordage and without tangling.
Claims13
A method for performing diagnostic testing of an optical fiber cable, comprising:
- (a) connecting a terminated optical fiber cable with test equipment for performing diagnostic testing of the optical fiber cable, wherein the terminated optical fiber cable is connected to the test equipment through an optical fiber jumper cable having a first end connected to the terminated optical fiber cable and a second end connected to the test equipment to provide an optical connection between the terminated optical fiber cable and the test equipment,
- wherein the optical fiber jumper cable is wound about a hub having a radius sufficient to permit the transmission of an optical signal between the terminated optical fiber cable and the test equipment, and
- wherein the hub is retained in a housing having a body portion and a cover portion, wherein the cover portion is adapted to substantially enclose the body portion when in a closed position, wherein two apertures are defined in the housing when the cover portion is in the closed position, the apertures permitting the first and second ends of the optical fiber jumper cable to exit the housing, and wherein the hub is rotatable within the housing;
- and
- (b) testing the terminated optical fiber cable.

A method for connecting optical signal transmitting equipment and optical signal receiving equipment through an optical fiber cable, comprising:
- connecting optical signal transmitting equipment with optical signal receiving equipment, wherein the optical signal transmitting equipment is connected to the optical signal receiving equipment through an optical fiber jumper cable having a first end connected to the optical signal transmitting equipment and a second end connected to the optical signal receiving equipment to provide an optical connection between the optical signal transmitting equipment and the optical signal receiving equipment,
- wherein the optical fiber jumper cable is wound about a hub having a radius sufficient to permit the transmission of an optical signal between the optical signal transmitting equipment and the optical signal receiving equipment, and
- wherein the hub is retained, in a housing having a body portion and a cover portion, wherein the cover portion is adapted to substantially enclose the body portion when in a closed position, wherein two apertures are defined in the housing when the cover portion is in the closed position, the apertures permitting the first and second ends of the optical fiber jumper cable to exit the housing, and wherein the hub is rotatable within the housing.
A system for connecting optical signal transmitting equipment and optical signal receiving equipment through an optical fiber cable, comprising:
- (a) optical signal transmitting equipment;
- (b) optical signal receiving equipment;
- and
- (c) an optical fiber jumper cable,
- wherein the optical signal transmitting equipment is connected to the optical signal receiving equipment through an optical fiber jumper cable having a first end connected to the optical signal transmitting equipment and a second end connected to the optical signal receiving equipment to provide an optical connection between the optical signal transmitting equipment and the optical signal receiving equipment,
- wherein the optical fiber jumper cable is wound about a hub having a radius sufficient to permit the transmission of an optical signal between the optical signal transmitting equipment and the optical signal receiving equipment, and
- wherein the hub is retained in a housing having a body portion and a cover portion, wherein the cover portion is adapted to substantially enclose the body portion when in a closed position, wherein two apertures are defined in the housing when the cover portion is in the closed position, the apertures permitting the first and second ends of the optical fiber jumper cable to exit the housing, and wherein the hub is rotatable within the housing.
