A method of removing water and other protic impurities from an organic liquid electrolyte, comprising contacting an organic liquid electrolyte comprising a solution of at least one lithium electrolyte and at least one aprotic, polar, organic solvent with at least one insoluble alkali metal hydride and separating insoluble reaction by-products therefrom to form a purified organic liquid electrolyte.
A method of removing water and other protic impurities from an organic liquid electrolyte, comprising contacting an organic liquid electrolyte comprising a solution of at least one lithium electrolyte and at least one aprotic, polar, organic solvent with at least one insoluble alkali metal hydride for a drying time of at least about three hours and separating insoluble reaction by-products therefrom to form a purified dried organic liquid electrolyte having a content of protic impurities less than 20 ppm.
