Abstract
Methods, software and systems of dynamically controlling push cache operations are presented. One method, which may also be implemented in software and/or hardware, monitors performance parameters and enables or disables push cache operations depending on whether the performance parameters are within a predetermined range. Another method, which may also be implemented in software and/or hardware, monitors an amount of credits associated with a device and enables or disables push cache operations dependent upon whether the device has sufficient remaining credits.
Claims38
A system comprising:
- at least one processor;
- a plurality of caches coupled to the at least one processor;
- at least one device capable of delivering data into at least one of said plurality of caches associated with the at least one processor, in which at least one of the at least one processors dynamically control the policy for each of said at least one devices to deliver data into the at least one cache.
A method for dynamically controlling push cache operations in a system having at least one processor and a plurality of caches coupled to the at least one processor, the method comprising:
- monitoring at least one performance parameter of the system;
- and
- delivering data into at least one of the plurality of caches associated with the at least one processor;
- and
- dynamically controlling, via at least one of the at least one processors, a policy to deliver data into the at least one cache.
A method of dynamically controlling push cache operations comprising:
- monitoring an amount of credits associated with a device seeking to perform a push cache operation;
- disabling push cache operations when the device does not have available credits;
- and
- enabling push cache operations by the device when the device has available credits.
An article comprising:
- a storage medium having stored thereon instructions that when executed by a machine result in the following:
- monitoring at least one performance parameter of a system having at least one processor;
- delivering data into at least one of a plurality of caches associated with the at least one processor;
- and
- dynamically controlling, via at least one of the at least one processors, a policy to deliver data into the at least one cache.
An article comprising:
- a storage medium having stored thereon instructions that when executed by a machine result in the following:
- monitoring of an amount of credits associated with a device seeking to perform a push cache operation;
- disabling push cache operations by the device when the device does not have available credits;
- and
- enabling push cache operations by the device when the device has available credits.
