Abstract
Methods and systems thereof for monitoring the performance of a streaming media server are described. Server-side measurements are performed with the server operating under a load. Client-side measurements are performed along with the server-side measurements. Data from the server-side measurements and data from the client-side measurements are aligned by time.
Claims30
A method of monitoring the performance of a streaming media server, said method comprising:
- measuring usage of a server resource versus time with said server operating under a load;
- introducing to said server a request from a client that causes said server to reply to said client;
- measuring values of a quantifiable characteristic of said reply at said client versus time;
- and
- aligning said usage of said server resource and said value of said quantifiable characteristic.
A system for monitoring the performance of a streaming media server, said system comprising:
- a subsystem for collecting data versus time from server-side measurements of said server, said server-side measurements taken at different server load conditions experienced by said server;
- a subsystem for collecting data versus time from client-side measurements at a client that issues a request to said server;
- and
- a subsystem for aligning said data from said client-side measurements and said data from said server-side measurements.
A computer-usable medium having computer readable code stored thereon for causing a device to perform a method of monitoring the performance of a streaming media server, said method comprising:
- collecting server-side metrics from said server, said server-side metrics quantifying resource usage by said server with said server streaming data to a plurality of clients;
- collecting client-side metrics from a client in communication with said server, said client-side metrics quantifying characteristics of said communication;
- and
- aligning said server-side metrics and said client-side metrics.
