Method and computer-readable medium for loading the contents of a data file

A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions stored thereon which, when executed by a computer, will cause the computer to:

• provide a first loading mode for loading a data file having one or more portions, wherein minimal integrity checking is performed on each of the portions when loading in the first loading mode;
• provide a second loading mode for loading the portions of the data file, wherein more extensive integrity checking is performed on each of the portions and wherein loading of each unloadable portion is skipped;
• begin loading a data file in the first loading mode;
• and to
• determine when operating in the first loading mode whether a portion of the data file is unloadable and in response to determining that a portion is unloadable, switching to the second loading mode.

A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions stored thereon which, when executed by a computer, will cause the computer to:

• provide a first loading mode, a second loading mode, and a third loading mode;
• begin loading a data file having one or more data records in the first loading mode, wherein minimal integrity checking is performed on the data records;
• determine while loading the data file in the first loading mode whether one of the data records is missing or corrupt;
• in response to determining in the first loading mode that one of the data records is unloadable, switching to the second loading mode;
• attempt to load the data file from its beginning in the second loading mode, wherein in the second loading mode additional integrity checks are performed on the data records as compared to the first mode and wherein the loading of any unloadable records is skipped;
• determine while loading the data file in the second loading mode whether the loading of one of the data records cannot be skipped;
• and
• in response to determining that the loading of one of the data records cannot be skipped while loading in the second loading mode, switching to the third loading mode wherein only user data stored in the data file is loaded.

A method for loading a data file comprising one or more records, the method comprising:

• providing a first loading mode, a second loading mode, and a third loading mode;
• attempting to load the data file in the first loading mode, wherein minimal integrity checking is performed on the data records while loading in the first loading mode;
• determining while loading the data file in the first loading mode whether one of the data records is unloadable;
• in response to determining in the first loading mode that one of the data records is unloadable, switching to the second loading mode;
• attempting to load the data from its beginning in the second loading mode, wherein in the second loading mode additional integrity checks are performed on the data records as compared to the first mode and wherein the loading of any unloadable records is skipped;
• determining while loading the data file in the second loading mode whether the loading of one of the data records cannot be skipped;
• and
• in response to determining that the loading of one of the data records cannot be skipped while loading in the second loading mode, switching to the third loading mode wherein only user data stored in the data file is loaded.
