Abstract
An epicardial patch includes an extracellular matrix (ECM) and a plurality of electrodes. The isolated ECM is configured for epicardial attachment over a myocardial region including an injured area to control post-injury remodeling of the myocardial region. The plurality of electrodes is configured for delivering electrical stimulation to enhance the effect of the isolated ECM in remodeling control by altering workload and stress on the myocardial region.
Claims38
An epicardial patch, comprising:
- an isolated extracellular matrix (ECM) support including an attachment surface configured for epicardial attachment;
- one or more electrodes connected to the isolated ECM support;
- and
- at least one lead having a distal end connected to the isolated ECM support and a proximal end connected to one or more lead connectors, the lead including one or more electrical conductors each having a distal end portion connected to at least one electrode of the one or more electrodes and a proximal end connected to a connector of the one or more lead connectors.
An epicardial patch, comprising:
- an isolated extracellular matrix (ECM) support including an attachment surface configured for epicardial attachment;
- a first conductor including a first distal end portion attached to the attachment surface. a plurality of electrodes connected to and distributed along the first distal end portion of the first conductor;
- a second conductor including a second distal end portion connected to the attachment surface;
- and
- a center electrode connected to the second distal portion of the second conductor.
A cardiac rhythm management (CRM) system, comprising:
- an epicardial patch including:
- an isolated extracellular matrix (ECM) support;
- a plurality of electrodes connected to the isolated ECM support;
- and
- at least one lead having a distal end connected to the isolated ECM support and a proximal end connected to one or more lead connectors, the lead including a plurality of electrical conductors each having a first end connected to one or more electrodes of the plurality of electrodes and a second end connected to a connector of the one or more lead connectors;
- and
- an implantable medical device including:
- one or more device connectors each configured to mate one connector of the one or more lead connectors;
- and
- a stimulation circuit, coupled to the one or more device connectors, to deliver electrical stimulation pulses to one or more electrodes of the plurality of electrodes.
A method for treating a myocardial region of a mammal including at least portions of an injured area, comprising:
- delivering pacing pulses to the myocardial region of the mammal through one or more electrodes of a plurality of pacing electrodes, wherein the one or more electrodes are connected to an isolated extracellular matrix (ECM) support configured for epicardial attachment when the plurality of pacing electrodes is introduced to the mammal.
