Abstract
A knee brace divided into anterior and posterior halves including a proximal member and a distal member. The brace further including at least one substantially inelastic cross strap adjustable in length and connected to the proximal and distal members. The at least one cross strap has first and second portions which intersect at an intersection point located between the proximal and distal members. The intersection point is defined at a location posterior of the frontal plane of the brace.

A knee brace divided into anterior and posterior sides by a frontal plane, and having first and second sides divided by a median plane, comprising:
- a proximal member;
- a distal member;
- a first cross strap adjustable in length and having a first end connected to a first side of the proximal member and a second end secured to a first side of the distal member, the first cross strap spiraling from the first side of the proximal member to the first end of the distal member about the posterior and anterior sides of the knee brace;
- and
- a second cross strap adjustable in length and having a first end connected to a first side of the proximal member and a second end connected to a first side of the distal member, the second cross strap spiraling from the first side of the distal member to the first end of the proximal member about the posterior and anterior sides of the knee brace;
- wherein the first and second cross straps intersect at an intersection point located between the proximal and distal members.
A knee brace divided into anterior and posterior halves, comprising:
- a proximal member;
- a distal member;
- and
- at least one cross strap adjustable in length and connected to the proximal and distal members, the at least one cross strap having first and second portions intersecting at an intersection point located between the proximal and distal members;
- wherein the intersection point is defined at a location posterior of the frontal plane of the brace.
A method for placing a knee brace on a knee, the method comprising the steps of:
- applying a brace around and against the knee such that first proximal and distal principal points of force are generated by the brace on a first side of the leg both above and below the knee, respectively, as the knee moves to extension, and second proximal and distal principal points of force are generated by the brace on a second side of the leg at locations above and below, respectively, the first proximal and distal principal points of force;
- wherein the point of intersecting first and second strap portions is posterior of the normal axis of rotation of the knee.
A knee brace positionable on a leg about a knee joint, comprising:
- at least one strap for engaging a knee on a posterior, first side of a leg at two points above and below, respectively, a knee joint generally opposite a second side of a leg;
- wherein the at least one strap is adjustable in length and configured to apply a principal force generated by the brace on the first side of a leg as the knee moves to extension so as to urge the knee towards the second side of a leg.
