The invention relates to a polymerization catalyst for preparing polyesters. The catalyst contains aluminium hydroxide and/or aluminium acetate as a first component and at least one phosphoric or phosphonic ester as a second component. The invention also relates to a polymerization process for preparing polyethylene terephthalate from dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol or terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol by transesterification and polycondensation respectively. The invention further relates to the use of aluminium hydroxide and/or aluminium acetate in combination with at least one phosphoric or phosphonic ester as polymerization catalyst when preparing polyesters by polycondensation or transesterification.
A polymerization catalyst for preparing polyesters, comprising aluminium hydroxide or aluminium acetate or both as a first component and triethyl phosphate or triethyl phosphonoacetate as a second component.
A polymerization process comprising transpolyesterifying dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol or polycondensing terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol in the presence of aluminium hydroxide or aluminium acetate or both, and in the presence of triethyl phosphate or triethyl phosphonoacetate, to produce polyethylene terphthalate.
A polyester prepared by the polycondensation of a diol and diacid or the polytransesterification of a diol and diester in the presence of a polymerization catalyst of aluminium hydroxide or aluminium acetate or both in combination with triethyl phosphate or triethyl phosphonoacetate.
