Abstract
The present invention provides processes for crystallization of macrolides, specifically pimecrolimus and tacrolimus.

A process for preparing crystalline macrolides comprising:
- a) combining a macrolide with a first polar organic solvent to obtain a solution;
- b) combining the solution with a second polar organic solvent and an antisolvent to form a mixture;
- c) maintaining the mixture until the macrolide crystallizes;
- and
- d) recovering the crystallized macrolide.

A process for preparing crystalline pimecrolimus comprising:
- a) combining pimecrolimus with a first polar organic solvent until obtaining a solution;
- b) combining the solution with a second polar organic solvent and an antisolvent to form a mixture;
- c) maintaining the mixture until the pimecrolimus crystallizes;
- and
- d) recovering the crystalline pimecrolimus.

- a) combining tacrolimus with a first polar organic solvent until obtaining a solution;
- b) combining the solution with a second polar organic solvent and an antisolvent to form a mixture;

- d) recovering the crystalline tacrolimus.
