Abstract
A User Equipment (UE) has a circuit that performs the acquisition for the low chip rate option of the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) Time Division Duplex (TDD) standard as formulated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). The present invention implements the detection of the basic SYNC code; the determination of the midamble used and the detection of the superframe timing based on SYNC code modulation sequence. This enables reading of a full Broadcast Channel (BCH) message.
Claims18
A User Equipment (UE) for use in a wireless telecommunications system which utilizes a time frame format where base stations transmit at a predetermined transmission rate a synchronization code selected from a set of a plurality of downlink synchronization codes which have a predetermined number of elements, where the UE receives communication signals and samples the received communication signals, the UE comprising:
- a synchronization code determination circuit which processes sets of sequential received communication signal samples, where each sequential sample set also the predetermined number of elements, within an input period which is based on an input rate at least as fast as the transmission rate including a correlator component and a detection circuit;
- said correlator component configured to correlate a sequential sample set with each of the synchronization codes of the set of downlink synchronization codes and to output to said detection circuit correlation data for all of the synchronization codes within one input period;
- and
- a detection circuit operatively associated with said correlator component to detect and track positive correlations of downlink synchronization codes with sequential sample sets.
A method for processing received communication signals in a wireless telecommunications which utilizes a time frame format where base stations transmit in a down link pilot timeslot at a predetermined transmission rate a synchronization code selected from a set of a plurality of downlink synchronization codes which have a predetermined number of elements, the method comprising:
- sampling received communication signals transmitted by a base station;
- processing sets of sequential received communication signal samples, where each sequential sample set also has the predetermined number of elements, within an input period which is based on an input rate at least as fast as the transmission rate including:
- correlating a sequential sample set with each of the synchronization codes of the set of downlink synchronization codes and outputting correlation data for all of the synchronization codes within one input period;
- and
- detecting positive correlations of downlink synchronization codes with sequential sample sets.
