Abstract
A motor vehicle has a riif which can be adjusted between an opened and a closed position, and which has a roof skin. A rollover protection element can be moved out from an inoperative position into a protection position. For improved rollover protection, when the roof is in the closed position, the rollover protection element projects over the roof skin in the protection position.
Claims20
A motor vehicle having a roof which can be adjusted between an open and a closed position, said vehicle comprising:
- a roof skin;
- and
- a rollover protection element which can be moved from an inoperative position into a protection position;
- wherein the rollover protection element projects over the roof skin in the protection position, including when the roof is in the closed position.
A method of protecting occupants of a convertible vehicle having a roof that can be moved between an open position and a closed position, said method comprising:
- providing at least one deployable rollover protection element having a stowed, position from which it is movable into a protection position;
- when commencement of a vehicle roll event is detected, moving said protection element from said stowed position, into said protection position;
- wherein, in said protection position said protection element extends upwardly above said closed position of said vehicle roof, including when the vehicle roof is closed.
