Irrigation unit having a control system that performs a self-test and a cleaner that cleans the unit

An irrigation unit for irrigating an area with a fluid from a fluid source, the irrigation unit comprising:

• a housing;
• a nozzle that is secured to the housing, the nozzle being in fluid communication with the fluid source so that fluid from the fluid source is transferred to the nozzle;
• and
• a unit control system including an electronic processor for processing electronic information, the unit control system performing a self-test on the irrigation unit to determine if the irrigation unit is functioning properly.

A method for irrigating an area with a fluid from a fluid source, the method comprising the steps of:

• providing a housing;
• securing a nozzle that to the housing, the nozzle being in fluid communication with the fluid source so that fluid from the fluid source is transferred to the nozzle;
• coupling an electronic component to the housing;
• and
• cleaning a portion of the electronic component with a cleaner coupled to the housing.

A method for irrigating an area with a fluid from a fluid source, the method comprising the steps of:

• providing a housing;
• securing a nozzle to the housing, the nozzle being in fluid communication with the fluid source so that fluid from the fluid source is transferred to the nozzle;
• and
• performing a self-test on the irrigation unit with a unit control system to determine if the irrigation unit is functioning properly, the unit control system being coupled to the housing.
