Exhaust muffler

A muffler for an internal combustion engine, the muffler comprising:

• a. a chamber into which exhaust gases are channeled from the engine, said chamber including a chamber exit;
• b. a first pipe portion in fluid communication with said chamber exit, said first pipe portion extending through at least half of the length of said chamber;
• c. a second pipe portion in fluid communication with said first pipe portion, said second pipe portion extending through at least half of the length of said chamber;
• and
• d. a muffler exit in fluid communication with said second pipe portion.

A method of attenuating exhaust noise of an internal combustion engine comprising:

• a. channeling exhaust gases from the engine into a main chamber;
• b. channeling the gases from the main chamber into an exhaust pipe that extends through the main chamber, said exhaust pipe being longer than the length of the main chamber;
• and
• c. channeling the gases from the pipe to an exhaust exit.

A muffler for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, the muffler comprising:

• a. an exhaust entrance port;
• b. a diffuser chamber in fluid communication with said entrance port;
• c. a diffuser chamber exit port;
• and
• d. a spark arrester at least partially disposed within said diffuser chamber and coupled to said diffuser chamber exit port, said spark arrester including a screen through which exhaust gases pass to flow through said diffuser chamber exit port, said screen being removably coupled to said diffuser chamber such that it can be removed from the muffler.
