Abstract
Method, system, and controller for regeneration a particulate filter as a function of fuels emitted with exhaust gases from an engine to an oxidation catalyst. The method, system, and controller being applicable in systems having an engine which emits exhaust gases having particulates that are captured by the particulate filter.
Claims14
A method for regenerating a particulate filter by controlling fuel delivery to a oxidation catalyst, the oxidation catalyst and particulate filter being in gaseous communication with an internal combustion engine having a number of cylinders for internal combustion which emit exhaust gases, the method comprising:
- determining an amount of fuel to be included within the exhaust gases such that a desired temperature of said exhaust gases may be achieved out of the oxidation catalyst to facilitate regeneration;
- emitting fuel from the engine as a function of the determined amount of fuel so as to facilitate regeneration of the particulate filter without requiring use of a fuel injection device downstream of the engine.
A method for regeneration of a particulate filter, the particulate filter being in communication with an internal combustion engine having a number of cylinders for internal combustion which emit exhaust gases, the method comprising:
- controlling the engine to emit fuel as a function of an amount of fuel desired to facilitate regeneration of the particulate filter, the engine controlled to emit the fuel so as to facilitate regeneration without injecting fuel downstream of the engine.
A system for regenerating a particulate filter, the system comprising:
- an engine having a fuel injection mechanism, the fuel injection mechanism controlling fuel injection into one or more cylinders of the engine, the engine being in fluid communication with the particulate filter such that the particulate filter captures particulates emitted in exhaust gases therefrom;
- and
- a controller configured for controlling the fuel injection mechanism to inject fuel during non-combustion conditions such that at least a portion of the injected fuel is emitted with the exhaust gases to the particulate filter, wherein the controller is further configured to control fuel injected during the non-combustion conditions in order to control fuel delivered to the particulate filter and thereby the regeneration thereof.
