Abstract
For achieving high-speed continuous shooting and increasing the number of shots that can be picked-up continuously, within a limited buffer memory size, an image pickup apparatus is provided with a function of carrying out a first process of storing output data from an image pickup element on a first memory area and a function of carrying out a second process of processing data placed on the first memory area and storing the processed data on a second memory area, and is configured to perform the first and second processes in parallel.

1-5. (canceled)
An image pickup;
- apparatus comprising:
- an image pickup element adapted to continuously pick up images;
- a memory for storing a first image data obtained by said image pickup element;
- an image compression circuit adapted to compress the first image data stored in said memory;
- and
- a control circuit adapted to carry out in parallel a writing operation of writing a second image data obtained by said image pickup element, into said memory and a compression operation of compressing the first image data already stored in said memory, wherein said control circuit carries out the parallel operation after said memory stores the first image data of at least one image frame.
A control method of an image pickup apparatus having an image pickup element, a memory and a image compression circuit, comprising:
- a first writing step of writing a first image data obtained by said image pickup element, into the memory;
- a reading step of reading the first image data already stored in the memory;
- an image compression step of compressing the first image data read out by said reading step;
- and
- a second writing step of writing a second image data obtained by said image pickup element, into the memory, wherein said second writing step is performed in parallel with said image compression step after the first image data of at least one image frame is written into the memory.
