Abstract
A gate lock device with front and rear units to be mounted on opposite sides of a structure associated with the gate and against which the gate closes. A gravity latch, displaceably mounted in the housing of the front unit, is engageable with a keeper pin. The front and rear units are provided with key-operated locks which are operable to lock and unlock the gravity latch. The rear unit includes an axially displaceable actuator operable to unlock the gravity latch when the key-operated locks are unlocked.
Claims8
A latch device for use with a gate, the latch device having front and rear units adapted to be mounted on opposite sides of a structure associated with the gate and against which the gate closes, said device comprising:
- (i) said front unit having (a) a first housing adapted to be mounted on the structure, (b) a manually displaceable gravity latch displaceably mounted in the housing and adapted to interengage with a keeper pin mounted on the gate and for holding the keeper pin in a closed position to prevent opening of the gate, (c) a locking means displaceably mounted in the housing for locking said gravity latch when in a locking position and displaceable to a retracted position in which the gravity latch is released, and (d) a key-activated front lock, mounted on the upper portion of said first housing,
- (ii) said rear unit having (a) a second housing accommodating a key-actuated rear lock, mounted in the upper portion of said second housing, (b) a rotatable actuator, and (c) an axially displaceable actuator mounted on the lower portion of said second housing,
- (iii) said latch device being (a) operable on actuation of either the front lock or the rear lock to displace said locking means between its locking and retracted positions, (b) operable when the front lock and the rear lock is in an unlocked position to permit the axially displaceable actuator of the rear unit to displace the gravity latch to release the keeper pin, and said latch device having a rotatably displaceable mechanism including said rotatable actuator for displacing said locking means and a lost-motion system which permits the displacement of said locking means to be achieved by operation of either the front lock or the rear lock;
- (iv) said axially displaceable actuator further having axially displaceable means for engaging and displacing the gravity latch to release the keeper pin when either of the locks are unlocked and said axially displaceable actuator is displaced in the second housing toward said front unit.
The latch device of claim 6 wherein said retraction element extends downwardly through a slot defined in said first housing.
A latch device for use with a gate, the latch device having front and rear units adapted to be mounted on opposite sides of a structure associated with the gate and against which the gate closes, said device comprising:
- (i) said front unit having (a) a first housing adapted to be mounted on the structure, (b) a manually displaceable gravity latch displaceably mounted in the housing and adapted to interengage with a keeper pin mounted on the gate and for holding the keeper pin in a closed position to prevent opening of the gate, (c) a cam follower displaceably mounted in the housing for locking said gravity latch when in a locking position and displaceable to a retracted position in which the gravity latch is released, and (d) a key-activated front lock, mounted on the upper portion of said first housing,
- (ii) said rear unit having (a) a second housing accommodating a key-actuated rear lock, mounted in the upper portion of said second housing, (b) a rotatable actuator, and (c) an axially displaceable actuator mounted on the lower portion of said second housing,
- (iii) said front and rear units being connected so that, (a) upon actuation of either the front lock or the rear lock, said cam follower is displaced between its locking and retracted positions, (b) when the front lock and the rear lock are in an unlocked position, the axially displaceable actuator of the rear unit may be moved to displace the gravity latch to release the keeper pin;
- (iv) said axially displaceable actuator further having axially displaceable front end for engaging and displacing the gravity latch to release the keeper pin when either of the locks are unlocked and said actuator is displaced in the second housing toward said front unit.
