Abstract
In one embodiment, methods and apparatus for configuring and/or monitoring a virtual machine in a resource group. In another embodiment, a method and apparatus for configuring and/or monitoring a resource group in accordance with a relocation policy that authorizes relocation of a resource from one cluster to another. In a further embodiment, a method and apparatus for configuring, monitoring and/or managing a resource group via a resource group tool having a user interface accessible via a web-services interface. In yet another embodiment, a method and apparatus for communicating between a console and at least one agent in a resource group tool via a web-services interface.

A method of configuring a resource group in a computer system that comprises a plurality of physical computer nodes, a plurality of resources executing on the plurality of physical computer nodes and a monitor that monitors at least some of the plurality of resources, the plurality of physical computer nodes being configured in a plurality of clusters comprising at least a first cluster and a second cluster, each of the plurality of clusters comprising a group of the plurality of nodes that are configured to communicate to implement the cluster, the method comprising:
- (A) configuring the resource group to comprise a first resource configured to initially execute on the first cluster, the resource group being configured in accordance with a relocation policy that authorizes relocation of the first resource to the second cluster.
At least one computer readable medium encoded with a plurality of instructions for configuring a resource group in a computer system that comprises a plurality of physical computer nodes, a plurality of resources executing on the plurality of physical computer nodes and a monitor that monitors at least some of the plurality of resources, the plurality of physical computer nodes being configured in a plurality of clusters comprising at least a first cluster and a second cluster, each of the plurality of clusters comprising a group of the plurality of nodes that are configured to communicate to implement the cluster, the plurality of instructions, when executed, performing a method comprising:
- (A) configuring the resource group to comprise a first resource configured to initially execute on the first cluster, the resource group being configured in accordance with a relocation policy that authorizes relocation of the first resource to the second cluster.
At least one computer for use in configuring a resource group in a computer system that comprises a plurality of physical computer nodes, a plurality of resources executing on the plurality of physical computer nodes and a monitor that monitors at least some of the plurality of resources, the plurality of physical computer nodes being configured in a plurality of clusters comprising at least a first cluster and a second cluster, each of the plurality of clusters comprising a group of the plurality of nodes that are configured to communicate to implement the cluster, the at least one computer comprising:
- at least one processor programmed to enable the resource group to be configured to comprise a first resource configured to initially execute on the first cluster, the resource group being configured in accordance with a relocation policy that authorizes relocation of the first resource to the second cluster.
A method of operating a computer system that comprises a plurality of physical computer nodes, a plurality of resources executing on the plurality of physical computer nodes and a monitor that monitors at least some of the plurality of resources, the plurality of physical computer nodes being configured in a plurality of clusters comprising at least a first cluster and a second cluster, each of the plurality of clusters comprising a group of the plurality of nodes configured to communicate to implement the cluster, the computer system comprising a resource group comprising a first resource configured to operate initially on the first cluster, the method comprising:
- (A) monitoring the first resource;
- and
- (B) in response to an occurrence of at least one condition, relocating the first resource to the second cluster.
At least one computer readable medium encoded with a plurality of instructions for operating a computer system that comprises a plurality of physical computer nodes, a plurality of resources executing on the plurality of physical computer nodes and a monitor that monitors at least some of the plurality of resources, the plurality of physical computer nodes being configured in a plurality of clusters comprising at least a first cluster and a second cluster, each of the plurality of clusters comprising a group of the plurality of nodes configured to communicate to implement the cluster, the computer system comprising a resource group comprising a first resource configured to operate initially on the first cluster, the plurality of instructions, when executed, perform a method comprising:
- (A) monitoring the first resource;
- and
- (B) in response to an occurrence of at least one condition, relocating the first resource to the second cluster.
At least one computer for use in operating a computer system that comprises a plurality of physical computer nodes, a plurality of resources executing on the plurality of physical computer nodes and a monitor that monitors at least some of the plurality of resources, the plurality of physical computer nodes being configured in a plurality of clusters comprising at least a first cluster and a second cluster, each of the plurality of clusters comprising a group of the plurality of nodes configured to communicate to implement the cluster, the computer system comprising a resource group comprising a first resource configured to operate initially on the first cluster, the at least one computer comprising:
- at least one processor programmed to;
- monitor the first resource;
- and
- in response to an occurrence of at least one condition, relocate the first resource to the second cluster.
