Abstract
Powder coatings having good impact resistance and weatherability characteristics are produced with an isophthalic acid-based polyester and an isocyanate-based curing agent.
Claims16
A thermosetting powder coating composition comprising
- a) a binder comprising
- (1) a polyester polyol having an average hydroxyl functionality of from 1.9 to 2.4 which is a reaction product of
- (i) an acid comprising at least 75% by weight of isophthalic acid,
- (ii) at least one diol,
- (iii) optionally, a polyol having a hydroxyl functionality greater than 2 , and
- (iv) a catalyst and
- b) an isocyanate-based curing agent
- in which the average of the functionalities of a) and b) is greater than 2.2 and less than 2.375.
