Abstract
A system for collecting gaseous ions from a mixture of molecules includes an ionizer, a separator, and a surface that is positioned in cooperative relationship with the separator. The ionizer converts at least a portion of the molecules into gas phase ions and the separator separates the ions. The ions land in a layer of liquid phase material on the surface.
Claims20
A method of collecting gaseous ions from a mixture of molecules comprising:
- converting at least a portion of the molecules into gas phase ions;
- separating the ions;
- and
- depositing by soft landing the separated ions on one or more surfaces carrying a layer of liquid phase material, the gas phase ions and the liquid phase material forming a gas/liquid interface.
