Abstract
Methods for improving the barrier of a substrate having a barrier coating are disclosed. The methods generally comprise contacting the barrier coated substrate with an acid. Substrates treated according to this method are also disclosed.

A method for improving the barrier of a substrate having a barrier coating on at least a portion of the substrate comprising contacting the barrier coated substrate with an acid, wherein the barrier coating does not contain inorganic oxide or silica.
A method for improving the barrier of a substrate coated with a barrier coating comprising amine functionality, comprising contacting the barrier coated substrate with an acid.
