Abstract
The present invention includes pressed gum tablets that effervesce when chewed. The effervescent pressed gum tablets include a particulate chewing gum base, a tableting powder and an effervescent system. The effervescent system may include a base and an edible acid. The effervescent system further may include active components, such as flavors and oral care actives. The present invention includes single and multi-layer pressed gum tablet embodiments.

A chewing gum composition comprising:
- a particulate chewing gum base;
- a tableting powder;
- and
- an effervescent system.
