Abstract
One embodiment of the invention is directed to operating, in a wireless network, a device that is designed for operation in a different wireless network. In one embodiment, a device designed to operate in a GSM wireless network may be used to communicate in a PHS wireless network.

A method of receiving a personal handyphone system (PHS) wireless signal, comprising:
- demodulating the received signal to generate a baseband waveform;
- filtering the baseband waveform using an unmatched channel selection filter;
- and
- extracting at least one PHS symbol from the baseband waveform by performing coherent detection of the baseband waveform.
