Abstract
A method for transferring information over a data connection in accordance with a protocol stack (206, 210) comprising first and second protocol layers. The method is characterized in that a protocol identifier is created the value of which is determined by means of the first protocol layers of said protocol stack and which is delivered to the second protocol layers of said protocol stack.
Claims21
A method for transferring information over a data:
- connection across an interface between a fixed network and a radio access network according to a protocol stack comprising certain first protocol layers and certain second protocol layers, the method comprising:
- creating a protocol identifier in a network node at the interface of the fixed network and the radio access network;
- determining a value for said protocol identifier in accordance with the first protocol layers in said protocol stack, and
- indicating said protocol identifier to the second protocol layers in said protocol stack.
A communications apparatus arranged to transfer information over a data connection across an interface between a fixed network and a radio access network to another communications apparatus in accordance with a protocol stack comprising certain first protocol layers and certain second protocol layers, wherein:
- said communications apparatus is arranged to create a protocol identifier in a network node at the interface of the fixed network and the radio access network;
- said communications apparatus is arranged to determine the value of said protocol identifier by means of the first protocol layers of said protocol stack;
- and
- said communications apparatus is arranged to indicate said protocol identifier to the second protocol layers of said protocol stack in either said communications apparatus itself or in said other second communications apparatus.
A communications apparatus arranged to transfer information from a second communications apparatus in accordance with a protocol stack comprising certain first protocol layers and certain second protocol layers, wherein the second protocol layers of said communications apparatus are arranged to receive a protocol identifier the value of which is determined by means of the first protocol layers of said protocol stack.
A data communications system comprising a first communications apparatus operable in a radio access network and a second communications apparatus operable in a fixed network and means for transferring information between the first and second communications apparatus in accordance with a protocol stack comprising certain first protocol layers and certain second protocol layers, wherein:
- the data communication system comprises a network node at the interface of the radio access network and the fixed network, said network node being arranged to create a protocol identifier;
- the network node is arranged to determine the value of said protocol identifier by means of the first protocol layers of said protocol stack;
- and
- the network node is arranged to deliver said protocol identifier tot he second protocol layers of said protocol stack.
A software program product for transferring information over a data connection across an interface between a fixed network and a radio access network according to a protocol stack comprising certain first protocol layers and certain second protocol layers, the software program product comprising:
- computer software adapted to make a programmable apparatus create a protocol identifier in a network node at the interface of the fixed network and the radio access network;
- computer software adapted to make a programmable apparatus determine a value for said protocol identifier in accordance with the first protocol layers in said protocol stack;
- and
- computer software adapted to make a programmable apparatus indicate said protocol identifier to the second protocol layers in said protocol stack.
