Abstract
A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for optimizing packet flow control through buffer status forwarding. A sending device includes buffer status information of the sending device in transactions being sent to a receiving device. The receiving device uses the buffer status information of the sending device for selecting transactions to offload.
Claims9
A method for optimizing packet flow control through buffer status forwarding comprising the steps of:
- sending buffer status information of a sending device in transactions being sent to a receiving device;
- and
- using the buffer status information of the sending device by the receiving device for selecting transactions to offload.
Apparatus for optimizing packet flow control through buffer status forwarding in a computer system comprising:
- a plurality of devices for sending and receiving transactions;
- each said device including a plurality of buffers used for respective different transaction types, and a register for storing buffer status information,
- each sending device sending buffer status information of the sending device in each transaction to a receiving device;
- and
- each said device including a transaction offload flow control;
- said transaction offload flow control for receiving and using the buffer status information of the sending device for selecting a transaction type to offload.
A computer program product for optimizing packet flow control in a computer system, said computer program product including a plurality of computer executable instructions stored on a computer readable medium, wherein said instructions, when executed by the computer system, cause the computer system to perform the steps of:
- sending buffer status information of a sending device in transactions being sent to a receiving device;
- and
- using the buffer status information of the sending device by the receiving device for selecting transactions to off load.
