Abstract
Duplicate data obtained by copying and a volume containing it are flexibly managed according to the attribute of the file to be copied by a storage apparatus as is required by a user. When receiving a backup instruction for the file to be backed up, an instruction for a method managing the attribute of the object to be backed up and the duplicate data obtained by the backup of the object to be backed up is also received. In this case, the duplicate data and the volume name to store it are related, thereby managing the specified attribute.
Claims8
A backup designation method using a computer, the backup designation method comprising:
- reading information related to a disk volume and information related to a backup method previously stored on a storage device;
- receiving parameters for backup from a user terminal;
- determining a backup method based on the information related to disk volume, the information related to backup method and the parameters;
- and
- sending, to another computer, designation for executing backup based on the determined backup method.
A backup designation method using a computer, the backup designation method comprising:
- reading information related to a disk volume and information related to a backup method previously stored on a storage device;
- receiving environment information from other computer;
- updating the information related to disk volume based on the environment information;
- updating the information related to backup method based on the updated information related to disk volume;
- and
- sending, to other computer, designation for executing backup based on the updated backup method.
A backup system, comprising:
- a part for reading information related to a disk volume and information related to a backup method previously stored on a storage device;
- a part for receiving parameters for backup from a user terminal;
- a part for determining a backup method based on the information related to disk volume, the information related to backup method and the parameters;
- and
- a part for sending, to other computer, designation for executing backup based on the determined backup method.
A method for determining a backup method using a computer, the method comprising:
- reading information related to disk volume and information related to backup method previously stored on a storage device;
- receiving environment information from other computer;
- updating the information related to disk volume based on the environment information;
- updating the information related to backup method based on the updated information related to disk volume;
- receiving parameters for backup from a user terminal;
- and
- determining a backup method based on the updated information related to backup method and the received parameters.
