System and method providing multi-tier applications architecture

A machine implemented method for executing a network-based application, comprising:

• receiving a local request to be processed by a relevant portion of application logic;
• locating the relevant portion on at leas one of a local storage medium and a remote server;
• retrieving the relevant portion from the remote server based at least in part on an access policy located on a client;
• and
• interchangeably executing a first element of the relevant portion on the client and a second element of the relevant portion on the remote server without modifying the first element and the second element of the relevant portion.

A system for processing a network-based application, comprising:

• means for translating and directing a local request to a client and a remote server;
• means for identifying and retrieving a pertinent subset of the network-based application from local storage media and a remote server;
• and
• means for processing the pertinent subset on the client and the remote server without modification to the pertinent subset of the network-based application.
