An apparatus, comprising:
- a signal generator to generate an optical signal, the optical signal being intentionally impaired;
- and
- an optical switch to switch the optical signal from the signal generator to inputs of N slots, wherein N is greater than 1, wherein at least a first slot is to be populated with at least a first optical receiver to be tested using the optical signal, and, wherein at least a second slot is to be populated with at least a second optical receiver to be tested using the optical signal.
An apparatus, comprising:
- a signal generator to generate a single mode optical signal and a multimode optical signal, the single mode optical signal and the multimode optical signal being intentionally impaired;
- and
- an optical switch to switch the single mode optical signal to a slot, the slot to be populated with a transceiver to be tested using the single mode optical signal and the multimode optical signal, the optical switch being to switch the single mode optical signal and the multimode optical signal to the slot.
An apparatus, comprising:
- a signal generator to generate a substantially unimpaired optical signal;
- a first optical switch to switch the optical signal to N slots, wherein N is greater than 1, wherein the N slots are to be populated with transceivers to be tested using the optical signal, the first optical switch to switch the first optical signal to circuitry to analyze the optical signal;
- a second optical switch to switch the optical signal from the N slots to at least one optical fiber, the optical fiber being to transport the optical signal from the N slots to the circuitry to analyze the optical signal.
A method, comprising:
- intentionally distorting an electrical signal and modulating a single mode laser and a multimode laser using the intentionally distorted electrical signal, the electrical signal comprising pseudorandom bit sequence;
- applying and output of the modulated single mode laser to a first transceiver in a first bay of a chassis of bays, and determining a power level for the first transceiver corresponding to a predetermined bit error rate;
- switching from the modulated single mode laser to the modulated multimode laser, applying the modulated multimode laser to a second transceiver in a second bay in the chassis, and determining a power level for the second transceiver corresponding to the predetermined bit error rate.
A method, comprising:
- modulating a laser using an electrical signal, the electrical signal comprising pseudorandom bit sequence;
- applying a first optical signal output from the modulated laser to a first receiver-transmitter pair in a first bay of a chassis of bays;
- passing the first optical signal from the first receiver-transmitter pair through an optical fiber;
- switching from the first bay to a second bay in the chassis and applying a second optical signal output from the modulated laser to a second receiver-transmitter pair in the second bay;
- passing the second optical signal from the second receiver-transmitter pair through the optical fiber;
- and
- comparing an error rate of the first optical signal output from the optical fiber with a reference optical signal.
