Abstract
Spatial power allocation and bit loading are performed deterministically for a closed loop MIMO system.
Claims16
A power allocation and bit loading method for use in a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system, comprising:
- choosing a channel model for a selected installation environment;
- computing expected values of spatial channel gains based on said channel model;
- performing water filling power allocation over said expected gain values to determine signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) for spatial channels;
- and
- performing bit loading based on said SNRs of said spatial channels.

An apparatus comprising:
- a first wireless multicarrier transmitter that is operative across a plurality of sub-carriers, said first wireless multicarrier transmitter to operate at a first power level for each sub-carrier within said plurality of sub-carriers and use a first modulation scheme across said plurality of sub-carriers;
- and
- a second wireless multicarrier transmitter that is operative across said plurality of sub-carriers, said second wireless multicarrier transmitter to operate at a second power level for each sub-carrier within said plurality of sub-carriers and use a second modulation scheme across said plurality of sub-carriers;
- wherein said first and second power levels and said first and second modulation schemes are selected based on first order statistics of an associated multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel and do not adapt with changing channel conditions during operation of said apparatus.

A system comprising:
- first and second dipole antennas;
- a first wireless multicarrier transmitter that is operative across a plurality of sub-carriers, said first wireless multicarrier transmitter to operate at a first power level for each sub-carrier within said plurality of sub-carriers and use a first modulation scheme across said plurality of sub-carriers, said first wireless multicarrier transmitter being coupled to said first antenna;
- and
- a second wireless multicarrier transmitter that is operative across said plurality of sub-carriers, said second wireless multicarrier transmitter to operate at a second power level for each sub-carrier within said plurality of sub-carriers and use a second modulation scheme across said plurality of sub-carriers, said second wireless multicarrier transmitter being coupled to said second antenna;
- wherein said first and second power levels and said first and second modulation schemes are selected based on first order statistics of an associated multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel and do not adapt with changing channel conditions during operation of said apparatus.

An article comprising a storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by a computing platform, operate to:
- receive an indication of a channel model chosen for a selected installation environment;
- compute expected values of spatial channel gains based on said channel model;
- perform water filling power allocation over said expected gain values to determine signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) for spatial channels;
- and
- perform bit loading based on said SNRs of said spatial channels.
