Digital synthesis of communication signals

Abstract

The present invention provides apparatus, systems and methods for directly digitally synthesizing communication signals or waveforms. That is, waveforms that carry data are generated by a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) at the radio frequency used to transmit the waveforms. One embodiment of the present invention comprises a digital processor configured to encode data onto one or more representative transmission symbols. A waveform generator, such as a high-speed DAC, is configured to generate a waveform from the encoded representative transmission symbols. The waveform is then transmitted.
