Abstract
There is disclosed a liquid crystal display device having two substrates which are placed opposite to each other with a liquid crystal material sandwiched therebetween. A phase plate is formed on the liquid-crystal side surface of one of the substrates. The phase plate is covered with color filters.
Claims5
A liquid crystal display device comprising:
- two substrates disposed opposite to each other with a liquid crystal material sandwiched therebetween;
- and
- a phase plate formed on a surface of one of the substrates which is closer to the liquid crystal material;
- wherein said phase plate is coated with color filters.

A liquid crystal display device comprising:
- two substrates disposed opposite to each other with a liquid crystal material sandwiched therebetween;
- pixels each having optically transmissive and optically reflective portions;
- a phase plate formed on a surface of one of the substrates which is closer to the liquid crystal material and in regions of the optically reflective regions;
- color filters formed successively in regions of the optically transmissive and optically reflective portions on the surface of said one of the substrates which is closer to the liquid crystal material from a side of this substrate;
- a protrusive film formed in a layer located over said color filters in the regions of the optically reflective portions;
- and
- a reflective electrode formed in regions of the optically reflective portions on a surface of the other substrate which is closer to the liquid crystal material.
