Abstract
Numerous embodiments of an apparatus and method of a smartcard having a dynamic display portion. In one embodiment, the smartcard includes a dynamic display portion made of an electronic ink, in which the dynamic display portion changes from a first display to a second display in response to an application use of the smartcard.

A method comprising:
- powering a smartcard for use with a plurality of application programs, the smartcard having a dynamic display;
- activating a display chooser for the smartcard;
- retrieving display data associated with a currently selected one of the applications from electronic storage media to the display chooser;
- and
- changing the dynamic display using the display chooser based on the retrieved display data.

- powering an RFID tag disposed on a smartcard hosting a plurality of application programs;
- selecting an application program from the plurality of hosted application programs;
- retrieving display data associated with the selected application program;
- and
- updating a dynamic display disposed on the smartcard with the retrieved display data.
