Process and apparatus for generating useful biomass from organic waste streams

An apparatus for generating a biomass product from an organic waste stream, the apparatus comprising:

• a rotatable separation drum having
• a first end for receiving the organic waste stream,
• a second end for passing a residual component, and
• a screen for passing a biomass component having particles sized smaller than a mesh size thereof the mesh size being at least 1¼ inch;
• and
• a grinder configured to receive essentially the entire biomass component produced by the separation drum and for reducing the sizes of the particles of the biomass component to produce the biomass product.

An apparatus for generating a biomass product from an organic waste stream, the apparatus consisting of:

• a rotatable separation drum having
• a first end for receiving the organic waste stream,
• a second end for passing a residual component, and
• a screen for passing a biomass component;
• and
• a grinder configured to receive the biomass component produced by the separation drum and to produce the biomass product.
