Abstract
The present invention provides a method of treating waste glass comprising bringing waste glass into contact with hot steam or hot water under pressure. Using this method, a porous material with a high silicon oxide content that can be reused as a resource for general purposes can be obtained, without the addition of auxiliary raw materials, through a procedure which can be carried out at low cost.

A method of treating waste glass comprising bringing waste glass into contact with hot steam or hot water under pressure.
A method of treating waste glass comprising bringing waste glass containing 30 to 80 mass % of SiO2, excluding waste glass containing only borosilicate glass, into contact with hot steam or hot water having a temperature of 120 to 450° C. and a pressure of 0.2 to 101.3 MPa without the addition of an alkali to convert the waste glass into a porous material with a reduced sodium content.
