Abstract
An improved acoustical damping wall (ceiling or floor) or door material comprises a laminar structure having as an integral part thereof one or more layers of viscoelastic material which also functions as a glue and one or more constraining layers, such as metal, ceramics, composites, cellulose, wood, or petroleum-based products such as plastic, vinyl, plastic or rubber.
Claims27
A laminar structure used for constructing walls, floors, or ceilings or doors comprising:
- two external layers of a material selected from the group consisting of wood and a cellulose material;
- at least one internal metal constraining layer;
- and
- two or more internal layers of a viscoelastic glue separated by the at least one internal metal constraining layer.
The method of forming a laminar structure which comprises:
- providing a layer of metal, having two surfaces;
- placing a layer of viscoelastic glue onto one surface of the metal layer;
- placing a layer of a first material selected from the group consisting of a cellulose material and wood over the viscoelastic glue;
- pressing the layer of first material against said layer of viscoelastic glue and the layer of metal for a selected time;
- and
- drying the layer of first material, the layer of metal and the viscoelastic glue.
The method of forming a laminar structure which comprises:
- providing a first layer of material selected from the group consisting of a cellulose material and wood;
- placing a first layer of viscoelastic glue onto one surface of the first layer of material;
- placing a second layer of material comprising a metal layer over the viscoelastic glue;
- providing a third layer of material selected from the group consisting of a cellulose material and wood;
- placing a second layer of viscoelastic glue on a surface of the third layer of material;
- moving the third layer of material along with the second layer of viscoelastic glue into a position such that the second layer of viscoelastic glue contacts the second layer of material;
- pressing the third layer of material, the second layer of viscoelastic glue, and second layer of material against the first layer of viscoelastic glue and the first layer of material for a selected time;
- and
- drying the third layer of material, the second layer of viscoelastic glue, the second layer of material, the first layer of viscoelastic glue and the first layer of material.
A laminar, sound-absorbing structure which comprises:
- a layer of metal having two surfaces;
- a layer of viscoelastic glue on one surface of the layer of metal;
- and
- a layer of a first material selected from the group consisting of a cellulose material and wood over the viscoelastic glue.
A laminar structure used for constructing walls, floors, or ceilings or doors comprising:
- three layers of material where the middle layer is a viscoelastic glue.
A laminar structure used for constructing walls, floors, or ceilings or doors comprising of three or more layers where at least one of the layers is a viscoelastic glue.
A laminar structure used for constructing walls, floors, or ceilings or doors comprising:
- five or more layers where at least one of the layers is viscoelastic glue.
A laminar structure used for constructing walls, floors, or ceilings or doors comprising:
- seven or more layers where at least one of the layers is viscoelastic glue.
A laminar structure used for constructing walls, floors, or ceilings or doors comprising:
- nine or more layers where at least one of the layers is viscoelastic glue.
The method of forming a laminar structure which comprises:
- providing a first layer of cellulose-based material and wood;
- placing a first layer of viscoelastic glue onto one surface of the first layer of material;
- placing a second layer of metal layer over the viscoelastic glue;
- placing a second layer of viscoelastic glue onto one surface of the second layer of material;
- placing a third layer of material layer over the second layer of viscoelastic glue;
- pressing the layers together of a selected time;
- and
- drying the third layer of material, the third layer of material, the second layer of viscoelastic glue, the second layer of material, the first layer of viscoelastic glue and the first layer of material.
The method of forming a laminar structure which comprises:
- placing a layer of viscoelastic glue on both sides of a middle constraining layer;
- placing an exterior constraining layer on each side of the viscoelastic glue;
- pressing the layers together of a selected time;
- and
- drying the third layer of material, the third layer of material, the second layer of viscoelastic glue, the second layer of material, the first layer if viscoelastic glue and the first layer of material.
