Abstract
The invention relates to a system and method for enabling users to explore paths between concepts in one or more multi-relational ontologies. The system may enable the selection of two or more concepts from an ontology and the tracking of paths of direct and indirect relationships between the two or more concepts. Constraints and/or algorithms may be used to pair down the paths between the selected concepts and enable a more manageable data set through which a user may navigate.
Claims15
A computer-implemented system for enabling users to explore paths between concepts in one or more multi-relational ontologies, comprising:
- a master ontology including a plurality of assertions, wherein an assertion comprises a first concept, a second concept, and a relationship between the first concept and the second concept;
- means for selecting two or more concepts from the master ontology that are directly or indirectly connected by one or more assertions, wherein a sequence of assertions that directly or indirectly connect the two or more concepts comprises a path;
- means for selecting one or more constraints for governing the selection of paths connecting the two or more concepts;
- means for applying the one or more constraints to the master ontology, wherein the one or more constraints will govern the selection of one or more paths connecting the two or more concepts;
- and
- means for providing a user with the two or more concepts and the one or more paths that connect them.
