Abstract
The invention relates to the use of particulate silicone resins in the absence of added organic solvents with particulate inorganic materials to form structured bodies and in particular molecular sieve containing structured bodies. The silicone resin is used in the form of a particulate with an average particle size of less than 700 um. Upon calcining, the silicone resin is converted to silica which acts as a binder.
Claims29
A process for the manufacture of a structured body, which process comprises:
- (a) preparing a batch composition free of added organic solvent comprising mixing
- (i) at least one particulate inorganic material,
- (ii) at least one particulate silicone resin of average particle size 700 um or less, and
- (iii) water, and
- (b) forming the batch composition into a structured body.
A composition suitable for forming into a structured body which composition comprises (i) at least one particulate inorganic material, (ii) at least one particulate silicone resin of average particle size 700 um or less, and (iii) water, and wherein the composition is free of added organic solvent.
A structured body which comprises at least one particulate inorganic material and about 10 wt. % or less, based on structured body of a silica binder derived from at least one particulate silicone resin, said structured body having a crush strength of greater than about 35 lb/in.
