Abstract
Stabilizing devices having elongate telescoping tube segments and end clamps. The end clamps of certain of the devices are clamped onto side rails of a cargo bed for segmenting a cargo bed length way. Said end clamps of other of the devices are clamped to the tube segments of the first devices for segmenting a cargo bed width way. Thus providing stabilization of segmented loads having length and/or width dimensions less than the length and/or width of the cargo bed.
Claims6
A structure for stabilizing segmented cargo loads comprising:
- a cargo bed having a length and a width and including opposing side rails having exposed upper edges;
- telescoping retaining bars having an exposed upper edge and a maximum extension;
- said retaining bars extendable to a length spanning the distance between the opposing side rails;
- said retaining bars being collapsible to a distance no greater than half the distance of the maximum extension length;
- and
- end clamps on opposed ends of the retaining bars for clamping the ends of the bars onto the exposed upper edges of the side rails and the exposed upper edges of certain of the retaining bars;
- and
- certain of said retaining bars being a first set of retaining bars extended width way between the side rails and clamped to the side rails for stabilizing cargo load segments front to back, and a secondary retaining bar selectively collapsed to extend lengthwise of the cargo bed between the bars of said first set and selectively clamped to the upper edges of said bars of said first set for stabilizing a load segment side to side.
Stabilizing devices for stabilizing segmented cargo loads on a cargo bed having side rails with exposed upper edges;
- a stabilizing bar of multiple telescoping bar sections extendable to span the width of the cargo bed between said side rails and having exposed upper edges in said extended position;
- end clamps provided on opposing ends of said stabilizing bar;
- and
- said end clamps configured to clamp over and onto the exposed upper edges of the side rails and over and onto the exposed upper edges of said stabilizing bars whereby multiple of said stabilizing devices can be secured to the side rails and between other of the stabilizing bars for securing segmented cargo loads in both width wise and length wise directions relative to the cargo bed.
Stabilizing bars for clamping onto side rails of a cargo bed for stabilizing segmented cargo loads thereon comprising:
- an elongate bar and end clamps at opposed ends thereof for clamping the bar onto the side rails;
- said end clamps including an inner jaw fixedly mounted to the bar end and an outer jaw slideably mounted on the bar end for moveable sliding away from and toward that inner jaw;
- actuating mechanism for providing said slideable movement including a pull rod having one end pivotally mounted to the outer jaw and a lever pivotally mounted relative to the inner jaw;
- a hub portion forming a part of said lever at a position spaced from said pivotable mounting of the lever relative to the inner jaw, said pull rod extended through the hub portion;
- a distal end portion of the pull rod threaded and a nut threadably mounted on the pull rod and abutting the hub to prevent slideable movement of the pull rod through the hub;
- and
- said nut threadably adjustable along the threaded distal end portion of the pull rod for selectively determining a point of abutment and thereby a degree of movement of the outer jaw toward the inner jaw.
