Abstract
The present invention relates to a system for two-stage blood dialysis of a patient. In one embodiment, the system comprises a first filtration device for receiving the blood from the patient and for producing a first filtrate and processed blood. The system further comprises a second filtration device for receiving the first filtrate and producing replacement fluid and waste product. At least one of the first and second filtration devices preferably comprises a Taylor vortex-enhanced blood filtration device.
Claims24
A system for two-stage blood dialysis of a patient, comprising:
- a first filtration device for receiving the blood from the patient and producing a first filtrate and processed blood;
- and
- a second filtration device for receiving the first filtrate and producing replacement fluid and waste product;
- wherein at least one of the first and second filtration devices comprises a Taylor vortex-enhanced blood filtration device.
A system for two-stage blood dialysis of a patient, comprising:
- a dialysis device configured for receiving the blood from the patient and producing waste dialysate and processed blood;
- and
- a filtration device configured for receiving the waste dialysate and producing recycled dialysate and waste product.
A method of performing hemodialysis on a patient, comprising:
- providing a first filtration device configured to create Taylor vorticity;
- providing a second filtration device;
- introducing blood from the patient into the first filtration device;
- introducing a first filtrate from the first filtration device into the second filtration device;
- and
- obtaining a replacement fluid from the second filtration device.
A method of performing hemodialysis on a patient, comprising:
- providing a first filtration device;
- providing a second filtration device configured to create Taylor vorticity;
- introducing blood from the patient into the first filtration device;
- introducing a first filtrate from the first filtration device into the second filtration device;
- and
- obtaining a replacement fluid from the second filtration device.
A method of performing hemodialysis on a patient, comprising:
- providing a dialysis device;
- providing a filtration device;
- introducing blood from the patient and dialysate into the dialysis device;
- introducing waste dialysate from the dialysis device into the filtration device;
- and
- obtaining recycled dialysate from the filtration device.
