Abstract
A charging member is disclosed having a support and at least one cover layer provided on the support. The cover layer has an outermost layer of the cover layer placed at the outermost surface of the charging member; the outermost layer contains i) composite particles composed of first metal oxide particles coated with carbon black, ii) second metal oxide particles and iii) a binder.

A charging member comprising a support and at least one cover layer provided on the support, wherein;
- said cover layer comprises an outermost layer placed at the outermost surface of the charging member;
- the outermost layer containing composite particles comprising first metal oxide particles coated with carbon black, second metal oxide particles and a binder.
A charging member comprising a support and at least one cover layer provided on the support, wherein;
- said cover layer comprises an outermost layer placed at the outermost surface of the charging member;
- the outermost layer being formed of a matrix comprising a binder, and having a plurality of first segments and a plurality of second segments;
- said first segments having a higher affinity with the binder than said second segments;
- said first segments being separated from one another by said second segments, and said first segments containing composite particles comprising first metal oxide particles coated with carbon black;
- and
- said second segments containing second metal oxide particles.
A process cartridge which comprises an electrophotographic photosensitive member and a charging member which are integrally supported, and is detachably mountable to a main body of an electrophotographic apparatus;
- said charging member comprising a support and at least one cover layer provided on the support;
- said cover layer of said charging member comprising an outermost layer placed at the outermost surface of the charging member;
- the outermost layer containing i) composite particles comprising first metal oxide particles coated with carbon black, ii) second metal oxide particles and iii) a binder.
An electrophotographic apparatus comprising an electrophotographic photosensitive member, a charging means, an exposure means, a developing means and a transfer means;
- said charging member comprising a support and at least one cover layer provided on the support;
- said cover layer of said charging member comprising an outermost layer positioned at the outermost surface of the charging member;
- the outermost layer containing composite particles comprising first metal oxide particles coated with carbon black, second metal oxide particles and a binder.
