Abstract
By leveraging object oriented concepts within switch system configuration, users are able to not only able to have different names for channels for a given application, but can also take advantage of leveraging all configuration information (such as devices, hardwires, routing, etc) from one virtual switch device to another. Object oriented concepts such as aggregation and inheritance can be used to provide cleaner solutions to switch system configuration problems. The user may be able to create a new virtual switch device or modify an existing virtual switch device by inheriting configuration information from one or more existing virtual switch devices.
Claims71
A method for creating a new virtual switch device, the method comprising:
- accessing one or more base configuration virtual switch devices, wherein the one or more base configuration virtual switch devices comprise configuration information for one or more base configuration switching systems;
- and
- creating a new virtual switch device from the one or more base configuration virtual switch devices, wherein the new virtual switch device comprises configuration information for a new switching system;
- wherein said creating the new virtual switch device from the one or more base configuration virtual switch devices comprises the new virtual switch device inheriting at least a subset of the configuration information from the one or more base configuration virtual switch devices.
A method for modifying an existing virtual switch device, the method comprising:
- accessing a first virtual switch device, wherein the first virtual switch device comprises configuration information for a first switching system;
- and
- modifying a second virtual switch device using the first virtual switch device, wherein the second virtual switch device comprises configuration information for a second switching system;
- wherein said modifying the second virtual switch device using the first virtual switch device comprises the second virtual switch device inheriting at least a subset of the configuration information from the first virtual switch device.
A memory medium comprising instructions to generate a program to create new virtual switch configurations, wherein the program is executable to perform:
- access one or more base configuration virtual switch devices, wherein the one or more base configuration virtual switch devices comprise configuration information for one or more base configuration switching systems;
- and
- create a new virtual switch device from the one or more base configuration virtual switch devices, wherein the new virtual switch device comprises configuration information for a new switching system;
- wherein said creating the new virtual switch device from the one or more base configuration virtual switch devices comprises the new virtual switch device inheriting at least a subset of the configuration information from the one or more base configuration virtual switch devices.
A memory medium comprising instructions to generate a program to create new virtual switch configurations, wherein the program is executable to perform:
- access one or more base configuration virtual switch devices, wherein the one or more base configuration virtual switch devices comprise configuration information for one or more base configuration switching systems;
- and
- modify an existing virtual switch device using the one or more base configuration virtual switch devices, wherein said modifying the existing virtual switch device using the one or more base configuration virtual switch devices comprises the new virtual switch device inheriting at least a subset of the configuration information from the one or more base configuration virtual switch devices.
A system for creating new virtual switch configurations, the system comprising:
- one or more first virtual switch devices, wherein the first virtual switch devices comprise configuration information for one or more first switching systems;
- and
- a second virtual switch device, wherein the second virtual switch device is operable to inherit at least a subset of the configuration information from the one or more first virtual switch devices;
- wherein the second virtual switch device can be one of an existing virtual switch device and a new virtual switch device;
- wherein the second virtual switch device said inherits at least a subset of the configuration information during one of configuration process and run-time execution of a program.
