Abstract
An apparatus and method is disclosed for preparing liquid egg products, for example pure egg whites, whole eggs and egg products either alone or mixed with spices, vegetables or other ingredients, in a microwave oven. The container for preparing the liquid egg products is relatively inexpensive and disposable. In another embodiment of the present invention, a method is provided for preparing liquid egg products in a disposable, microwavable container in which the liquid egg product expands while cooking and partially removes the lid of the container to create a delicious meal of properly cooked, fresh egg product, that are ready for consumption.
Claims20
A disposable microwaveable container for a liquid egg product, the container comprising:
- a base portion and a top portion separated from the base portion by one or more sidewalls extending from the base portion to the top portion and defining an interior of the container;
- a rim proximate the top portion of the container defining an opening to the interior;
- and
- a lid adapted for fitting over the rim,
- wherein the container is adapted for holding the liquid egg product and wherein the lid is adapted for unsealing from the rim upon heating of the liquid egg product in a microwave oven.
A method for preparing a liquid egg product comprising:
- placing a container with the liquid egg product inside in a microwave oven;
- and
- cooking the liquid egg product in the microwave oven for a specified cooking time,
- wherein the amount of liquid egg product relative to volume of the container and the specified cooking time cause the liquid egg product to expand within the container such that the container lid becomes partially dislodged from the container during cooking, and
- wherein the lid is readily removed from the container once the liquid egg product is cooked.
A disposable microwavable container for liquid egg products comprising:
- a base portion and a top portion separated from the base portion by one or more sidewalls extending from the base portion to the top portion and defining an interior of the container;
- a rim proximate the top portion of the container defining an opening to the interior;
- and
- a cover removably attached to the rim, the cover sealing the opening to the interior of the container,
- wherein the container is adapted for holding liquid egg products and wherein the cover is adapted to be peeled back prior to cooking the liquid egg product in a microwave, and
- wherein the amount of liquid egg product in the container is proportionate to the volume of the container such that the liquid egg product does not spill over during cooking.
