Abstract
A sulfonated polyarylenethioethersulfone polymer and copolymer. The sulfonated polyarylenethioethersulfone polymer and copolymer comprises the reaction product of an aromatic dihalo functionality sulfonated monomer, an aromatic dithiol monomer, and optionally an aromatic dihalo functionality monomer. The invention also relates to methods of making the sulfonated polyarylenethioethersulfone polymer and copolymer, and to membranes made from the sulfonated polyarylenethioethersulfone polymer and copolymer.

A sulfonated polyarylenethioethersulfone polymer or copolymer comprising:
- the reaction product of an aromatic dihalo functionality sulfonated monomer, an aromatic dithiol monomer, and optionally an aromatic dihalo functionality monomer.
A method of making a sulfonated polyarylenethioethersulfone polymer or copolymer comprising:
- reacting an aromatic dihalo functionality sulfonated monomer, an aromatic dithiol monomer, and optionally an aromatic dihalo functionality monomer to form the sulfonated polyarylenethioethersulfone polymer or copolymer.
A method of making a sulfonated polyarylenethioethersulfone polymer or copolymer comprising:
- mixing an aromatic dihalo functionality sulfonated monomer, an aromatic dithiol monomer, and optionally an aromatic dihalo functionality monomer in the presence of a polar aprotic solvent to form a solution;
- and
- heating the solution to form the sulfonated polyarylenethioethersulfone polymer or copolymer.
