Abstract
For setting the position of a control element, a controller and method according to the invention provide for impressing a required temporal characteristic of the actuating signal onto a should-be value then using said should-be value as a time-variable signal for forming the actuating signal.

A controller that sets the position of a control element, comprising:
- an actuating signal having a desired value;
- an as-is value of the actuating signal that is the value set by the control element and routed to a position controller;
- and
- a required temporal behavior having a reference to the actuating signal that is impressed onto the desired value and the desired value is routed to the position controller as a time-variable signal.

A method for setting the position of a control element, comprising:
- specifying an actuation speed for the control element via an actuating signal;
- requiring a temporal behavior of the actuating signal;
- impressing the temporal behavior of the actuating signal onto a desired value;
- and
- using the desired value as a time-variable signal that forms the actuating signal.
